The spiritual leader of Israel’s fervently Orthodox Shas Party told police in a written statement that he did not intent to encourage or condone violence when he criticized Education Minister Yossi Sarid. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef is being investigated for alleged incitement against Sarid when he recently called on followers to curse him during the reading of the Book of Esther on Purim.
