Dr. Georg Bernhard, an out###ing journalist of the German Republic era and former editor-in-chief of the Vossische Zeitung, is now an exile from Germany living in Paris, where he edits the Pariser Tageblatt, in which the following article peared:
May 1, holiday of German labor in the German Cultural Reich, found a special consecration in the “ritual murder” issue of the Stuermer, a weekly which Julius Streicher publishes in Nuremberg.
Streicher was originally a democratic public school teacher in Nuremberg and then became a public agitator. Inciting against Jews was always his specialty, and he always invented repugnant ways of doing it. His weekly, the Stuermer, served him simultaneously as an instrument of propaganda and extortion. He was a constant guest in the courts of law, which gave him long-term sentences. Gradually one became inclined to assume, by way of excuse, that Streicher was the victim of those agonizing mental diseases which develop, on a foundation of weak mentality, a mixture of paranoia, inclination towards pornographic activity and unbridled urge towards expression.
HAS BUSINESS MEN COWED
Today this man is Hitler’s governor of Bavarian Franconia. As formerly, he is still publishing the weekly, the Stuermer, which yields him a handsome income of many thousands of marks. For every business man who does not wish to be mobbed, to be accused of being of Jewish origin or to be exposed to the lynch laws must sell himself to the sadist National Socialist leader of Nuremberg.
The “ritual murder” issue of this Streicher weekly is, essentially, no worse than the other issues of the paper. All the lies which have ever been told in the course of years by Streicher himself, and also by others, to the effect that the drinking of Christian blood is part of Jewish tradition, have been collected here and illustrated by falsifying composite photographs. This defamation has no connection with the anti-Semitic race theory of the Third Reich. It is a frontal attack against the Jewish religion and thus completes the filth which Streicher, Rosenberg and other National Socialist super leaders have already hurled against Catholicism and Christendom generally.
FUTILE TO COMPLAIN TO HITLER
The All-German Representative Body of German Jewry has brought charges against Julius Streicher before Chancellor of the Third Reich Adolph Hitler. To complain to the painter of Braunau against the Streicher of Nuremberg is really to complain against the devil to his grandmother. Adolph Hitler knows his friend Julius Streicher very well. He not only approves of him: he loves him. He also sanctions everything which Julius Streicher utters. For he has so often himself made all these assertions in his own speeches.
The very fact that this paper continues its incitement to pogroms unmolestedly in Hitler Germany is proof enough of this. Attempts are made however, to conceal this abroad. Therefore it is forbidden to take it across the border of the Third Reich. And recently it was even forbidden to sell the Stuermer in Berlin, because too many foreigners could see it there.
WORLD SHOULD SE IT
The “ritual murder” issue of the Stuermer should be distributed, millions of copies of it, in all the countries of the world. For this newspaper, and this special edition in particular, shows the true visage of German National Socialism and reveals the real soul of the German leader better than do his speeches advocating peace.
