The U.S. House of Representatives’ most powerful committee rejected an amendment that would have required oversight of Israel’s settlement building. Rep. David Obey (D-Wis.), the ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee, proposed attaching an amendment to the foreign operations bill, which includes $2.8 billion in assistance to Israel, that would have required the secretary of state to report within six months on Israel’s settlement activities.
