The U.S. Senate passed an energy bill that will extend daylight savings time by a month. The bill passed last Friday originally was meant to extend DST by two months as an energy-saving measure. That was reduced to a month — three weeks in spring and a week in the fall — after lobbying by Conservative and Orthodox Jewish groups concerned that the extension would force observant Jews to choose between saying morning prayers and getting to work on time.
