The U.S. State Department is sponsoring a conference on the Israeli attack on the U.S.S. Liberty during the 1967 Six-Day War. Israeli, Arab, British and Canadian diplomats are being invited to the two- day conference on the attack, which killed 34 Americans. Israel long has maintained — and repeated U.S. inquiries have agreed — that the attack was a case of mistaken identity, but some critics still say the attack was deliberate.
