The World Council of Churches called on Israel not to pre-empt final status talks on Jerusalem through the building of settlements and a security barrier. In a letter posted on its Web site March 31, the WCC said plans to add 3,500 homes to Ma’aleh Adumim, a West Bank settlement adjoining Jerusalem; continued construction of the security barrier inside Jerusalem; and alleged confiscation of Palestinian property and human rights abuses “adversely affect the status of Jerusalem.”
