Thousands of Israelis yesterday celebrated the first Purim in the Jewish state. Synagogue services were attended by throngs of jubilant worshippers in all sections of the country Public celebrations were also arranged in numerous halls. Contrary to established custom, Purim was observed in Jerusalem yesterday and not today.
