The re-trial of suspended Bavarian Chief Rabbi Aron Ohrenstein on charges of falsely certifying indemnification claims which was scheduled to be held today, was postponed pending a decision by a higher court on Dr. Ohrenstein’s request for a new trial.
Dr. Ohrenstein, who was convicted in connection with the Philip Auerbach case, appealed his original sentence of one year in prison to a higher court. That court upheld his conviction, but ordered a re-trial here in relation to the length of the sentence. Dr. Ohrenstein, meanwhile, has appealed for a new trial altogether.
Meanwhile, Dr. H. Mulzer, who was to preside at the re-trial, disqualified himself. He was the presiding judge of the court which convicted the late Mr. Auerbach.
