Ex-President Rafael L. Trujillo of the Dominican Republic declares in a Pan-American Day statement published in the New York Post that in lending his influence toward establishment of the refugee project there, “I have served my country, this continent and humanity.”

Freda Kirchway, editor and publisher of The Nation, in an article written after a tour of the Dominican, Republic, asserts that “the refugees, especially those who come under the wing of the Dominican Republic Settlement Association, stand a good chance of peace and happiness–at least as long as Trujillo holds power.”
