Israel Defense Forces this week killed two members of Islamic fundamentalist groups who tried to enter the central sector of the southern Lebanon security zone.
IDF soldiers in an army tank spotted the two men and began to shell the area, Israel Television reported.
A statement from Beirut said the two men were from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Meanwhile, the Golani battalion that lost nine soldiers in recent roadside bombings in southern Lebanon ended its active duty Wednesday in the security zone.
On Thursday, the IDF chief of staff was scheduled to hold a final probe into the attacks to determine whether steps should be taken against the officers who directed the troops’ activities.
