Two former members of special German commando units charged with the murder of 40 to 50 Jews near Chelm, in Nazi-held Poland, in the spring of 1944 went on trial here today.

The defendants are Paul Heilig and Rudolf Theimer. They were members of Nazi military commando unit 1005, the prosecution charged.
