Two Jewish groups criticized President Bush’s signing of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. The president signed the law Thursday, establishing a separate and punishable offense for crimes against pregnant women that harm embryos or fetuses. Hadassah and the National Council of Jewish Women are concerned that the law would conflict with Roe v. Wade, which ruled that the fetus is not a person under the law.
