Two-Jews were among seven Britons elevated to the peerage in the honors list published today on the King’s official birthday. In addition, three other Jews were honored with various other appointments.
The two new barons, who will sit in the House of Lords, are Lewis Silkin, former Labor Minister of Town and Country Planning, and Lt. Col. Harry Morris, until recently Labor M.P. Col. Morris is very active in Zionist and pre-Israel causes.
Sir Ben Lockspeiser, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, was named a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath; Even R. Montagu, Judge Advocate of the Fleet and president of the Anglo-Jewish Association, was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire; while Newille Blond, former United Kingdom trade adviser in Canada and the United States, was named a Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George.
