Two Jews were promoted yesterday to the rank of major generals in the Red Army in recognition for their work at the front. The two are Gen. Naum Lewentow and Isaj Rivkin.
It is reported that a large number of high officers in the Red Army are Jews, although exact date cannot be obtained. Many of the Jewish officers are natives of small towns in the Ukraine and White Russia who have devoted themselves to military study for the last twenty years. They started as ordinary soldiers during the early days of the Red Army and later were graduated from the Moscow Military Academy.
