U.N. Body Decides to Defer Study on Protection of Minorities

A resolution pledging the Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities to concentrate on the problems of discrimination but defer work on studies looking toward special protection of minorities, was passed by the subcommission here today. The resolution had the support of nine of the twelve members of the subcommission, but the Soviet and Polish experts abstained.

The resolution had been introduced by the British expert, Prof. Richard Hiscocks, and had the support of the American member, Justice Philip Halpern. Under the not be undertaken by the subcommission pending a specific directive from the group’s parent body, the Commission on Human Rights.
