Soviet suppression of Jewish religion and culture will come under scrutiny here before the United Nations Commission on Human Rights which is now in session here. The session is drafting a UN declaration and a UN convention to ban religious discrimination in all countries.
The Human Rights Commission meanwhile heard preliminary attacks against Soviet anti-Semitism from governmental and non-governmental representatives this weekend. Under its rules of procedure the Commission does not permit the names of countries involved to be mentioned, but representatives of Jewish organizations, of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, and of several Latin American member-states, pointedly directed their remarks against the USSR.
