Two Arabs were shot and killed and a third arrested by a United Nations Emergency Force patrol which had been attacked by an Arab group last night 500 yards from the armistice demarcation line at the Gaza Strip.
UNEF headquarters, which announced the action, said it took place southeast of Beit Hanun. The patrol of four men from the Danish-Norwegian battalion saw a group of six men moving in the direction of the demarcation line. The patrol challenged the Arabs, whereupon the six men moved toward the UNEF troops. One Arab threw a knife at the troops and the patrol opened fire. Two Arabs wearing khaki uniform jackets were killed, a third taken into custody and the others fled. UN military observers are investigating further.
In another incident, a Yugoslav soldier was killed and four others seriously injured when the truck in which a UNEF engineering unit was travelling hit two anti-tank mines south of Rafah. The truck was returning from a mission near the Israel-Egyptian demarcation line. It had passed the same point unscathed a short while before.
