The United States hopes to see a permanent peace settlement replace the current armistice agreements between Israel and the Arab states within the next year, Ambassador Ernest Gross of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations, said here today.

Speaking at a luncheon tendered in his honor by the United Nations Correspondents Association, Ambassador Gross said that the U.S. is concerned by the fact that there is no peace settlement in the Middle East and would not like to see the present armistice situation continue indefinitely.
