U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell did not condemn Israeli incursions into Palestinian Authority territory. “Mr. Sharon is the prime minister, democratically elected by the people of Israel,” Powell said in response to questions at a State Department press conference. “He is aware of our concerns about going back into these territories and staying there for extended periods.”
