U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski criticized President Bush for not proposing funding to protect non-profit religious and social institutions from terrorist attacks in his 2008 budget. “We must help protect our hospitals, schools, community centers, synagogues and churches from terrorist violence,” Mikulski (D-Md.) said. “The organizations are on the front lines, working hard to develop and nurture communities, but the president has done nothing to protect them.” Mikulski and U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) fought unsuccessfully for additional funding in the 2007 spending bill.
