When Sol Ullman, deputy attorney general, asked the judge in Special Sessions Court to be lenient with Dr. Kurt Engleman, refugee from Nazi Germany, because of his distinguished record in the Reich prior to Hitler’s advent, Engleman was given a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of practicing medicine here without a license.
The physician was chief surgeon of the Urban Hospital in Berlin. His wife, an “Aryan,” is Mme. Violet de Struzzi, opera singer.
He testified yesterday that he has applied for a medical license here, and admitted attending a local operation in an advisory capacity at the invitation of a practicing friend. He said the manual assistance he had given, however, had been negligible. He was arrested on an anonymous complaint.
