A Department of Judaic Studies has been established at the University of Manitoba with Rabbi Arthur A. Chiel, director of the Hillel Foundation at the University, as department head, it was announced here today.

The new department will offer courses in Modern Hebrew and Jewish History and is the first of its kind in a Canadian university. This will be the second chair of Judaic Studies established on this continent under the auspices of Hillel, the first having been established at Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 1949.
