Despite the heavy new responsibilities created by war, public response to the appeal of local welfare institutions continues to surpass all previous records, George Z. Medalie, president of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies of New York City, reported at the 25th annual meeting of the Federation held today in the Federation building.
Referring to the campaign of the New York and Brooklyn Federations of Jewish Charities, now in its final stages, Mr. Medalie stated that the number of donations increased 32 percent and that 14,000 new contributors, giving $10 and more, were enlisted in the course of the drive to help the 116 medical and welfare institutions affiliated with the two Federations. This is the highest ever recorded in the five years history of merged New York-Brooklyn Federation appeals. The following trustees at-large were re-elected: Myron S. Falk, Jr., Harry G. Friedman, Norman S. Goetz, Stanley M. Isaacs, Mr. Medalie, Lewis S. Rosenstein; William Rosenwald, Ralph E. Samuel and Percy S. Straus.
