Delegates from all parts of the country meeting Sunday in a conference of the Central Relief Committee at the Central Jewish Institute, 125 E. 85th Street to discuss plans for continued relief to Jewish war sufferers heard from Leon Kamaiky, general Chairman of the Committee, that this body has collected $10,600,000 which has been distributed in Europe and Palestine.
Rabbi Neyer Berlin, who presided, suggested that residents of this country form “Landsmanschart” groups to relieve the distress of Jews in the areas from which they came.
Some of the speakers charged that the Soviet Government placed obstacles in the way of the Central Committee’s work. The conference voted to organize a permanent committee of 100 members to carry on the work of reconstruction in Europe. It was also voted to send representatives to Russia to investigate the cause of friction between officials and the relief workers and the report on conditions generally. Other resolutions adopted call for the raising of a $600,000 fund for educational work in Eastern Europe.
A resolution recommending that the Joint Distribution Committee sever all relations with the “Yidgescom” in Russia was adopted, and handed to a Committee with full power to act as it sees fit.
