The-Kennedy Administration was urged today to use “every resource at its command” in blocking Arab attempts to “sabotage” a solution of the Palestinian refugee problem based on economic development of the Middle East.
Julian Freeman, of Indianapolis, chairman of the commission on international affairs of the American Jewish Congress, told the organization’s national governing council that Arab spokesmen in the United Nations were preparing to reject again any proposals for alleviating the plight of the refugees by integrating them into the economies of the countries where they are now living.
The American Jewish Congress leader cited the economic development and reclamation plan proposed in 1959 by the late United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold which stated that the reintegration of the Palestinian refugees into productive life was “perfectly within reach” and which urged that the displaced Arab population be regarded by the host countries “not as a liability but, more Justly, as an asset for the future.
