What is believed to be the largest cheesecake in the world will be baked in Haifa for Shavuot. The cake is expected to measure more than three yards in diameter and more than one yard high. Dairy food traditionally is eaten on Shavuot.

Striking lifeguards returned to Israel’s beaches for Shavuot. The lifeguards went on strike earlier this month to protest local authorities’ layoff plans. The Interior Ministry wants the number of lifeguards posted at each beach lookout cut from three to two. But on Tuesday the lifeguards were back at work, calling it a goodwill gesture for the holiday.
