Will Eisner, one of the legends of the comic book industry who later turned to graphic novels about Jewish life, died Monday at 87. Throughout the 1940s, Eisner wrote and illustrated “The Spirit,” an influential work in the comic-book world; indeed, the awards in the comic book industry are named after him.
