Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg declared in an address to the Catholic students’ organization today that although the State respected religious peace, “we consider ourselves by duty bound always to emphasize our native Austrian folkdom.”
He said, “Our Catholic state respects religious peace and no one need complain of the State’s interference in the sphere of conscience.”
Referring to recent disclosures of financial difficulties of the Phoenix Insurance Co., the chancellor said nothing would be hidden and the public would be informed of the company’s true position.
