Rabbi Bernard Weinberger, spiritual leader of the Young Israel of Brooklyn, and one of the 12 Jews who resigned yesterday from the Williamsburg Community Committee Against Poverty in protest against alleged discrimination against needy Jews in the area, said here today that the committee will take up the question at a meeting scheduled for tomorrow evening.
Rabbi Weinberger said the committee will discuss charges raised by the 12 Jewish members that other ethnic groups represented on the committee had refused to recognize that there were “acute pockets of poverty” among the Hassidic Jews of Williamsburg, a part of Brooklyn.
The other Jewish members who resigned from the committee, in addition to Rabbi Weinberger, were: Rabbi Samuel Blumenkrantz, Sender Deutsch, Leib Freidman, Frances Hamberger, Bezalel Kahn, Harold Katof, Rabbi Chaim A. Pincus, Dr. Alfred Schnell, Dr. H. Melmuth Sternberg, Rabbi Julius Templer and Joseph Zeitleim.
