The American Section of the World Zionist Organization, at its meeting this week under the chairmanship of Mrs. Charlotte Jacobson, urged the Zionist Organization of America to rescind its decision to resign from the American Zionist Federation. Affirming a similar statement adopted by the Jerusalem Executive of the WZO, the American Section resolution called upon the ZOA to return to the AZF “as the organizational expression of Zionist unity and the instrumentality through which all Zionist groups in the United States cooperate in areas of common concern.”
The American Section, the resolution continued, completely concurs with the Jerusalem Executive resolution that the AZF is “the essential prerequisite for the fulfillment of the tasks and challenges which confront the American Jewish community and the State of Israel.” All the members of the American Section voted for the resolution with the exception of Jacques Torczyner who abstained. Torczyner is past president of the ZOA and presently the chairman of the national board of AZF.
