Yaakov Fichman, Israel’s outstanding poet, died here today at the age of 78. He was eulogized at today’s meeting of the Israel Cabinet by Premier David Ben Gurion. During the last few months he was confined to bed. He was placed in a hospital last week after suffering a leg fracture, complications of which caused his death.
Born in Russia, he settled in Palestine in 1912. He edited various literary publications and was the author of several novels. His poems won him the Ussishkin Prize, the Bialik Prize and other literary prizes.
