The title “People’s Artist,” the highest honor for an actor in Soviet Russia, was bestowed today by the Soviet authorities, upon S. Michoels, the internationally known Jewish actor of the Yiddish State Theatre at Moscow.
M. Michoels has been with the Yiddish State Theatre ever since its establishment by the Soviet. He has also starred in a number of Soviet movies, and was highly praised by the press in Berlin and Paris for his acting when the Moscow Yiddish State Theatre was touring Europe.
