(Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

A motion to change the language of instruction in the schools maintained by the Warsaw Kehillah was defeated by a majority vote at yesterday’s session of the Kehillah executive.

The motion aimed at substituting Yiddish or Hebrew for Polish.

Eight Agudists and Mizrachists joined to oppose the measure which had the support of the three other members of the executive, a Bundist, Volkist and a Zionist.

In opposing the resolution, the Agudists and Mizrachists argued that Yiddish is a corrupted German dialect and cannot therefore be accepted as the language in the Kehillah schools, while the use of Hebrew in the Diaspora is impractical.
