With delegates from seventy-five chapters of the Southern Young Judaea Association attending, the fifteenth annual convention of the organization opened here today. The sessions are to continue through Wednesday evening.
Tomorrow’s program of speeches and symposiums will include a discussion of the proposal to extend S.Y.J.’s activities to include a larger participation in local and world-wide Jewish undertakings. In relation to the latter, there is talk of organizing a Jewish youth movement in which young Jewry could become articulate through a definite planned program, since many leaders here feel that Jewish youth is not fully meeting the challenge of the situation confronting Jewry everywhere.
David Levine of New York City, president of National Young Judaea, will make the principal speech. Other features of the convention will be leaders’ institute, to be conducted by Edgar M. Kahn of Atlanta, and a debate between representatives chosen by the S.Y.J. and by the Texas State Young Judaea.
