Removal of the Zionist Organization of America head quarters to Washington and appointment of Rabbi Isadore Breslau as executive director and secretary of the Z.O.A. was announced today by President Edmund I. Kaufmann, marking what was described as the initial steps to implement the reorganization plan approved by the 43rd annual convention.
The announcement followed approval of the steps at a meeting of the National Executive of the Z.O.A. It said that the move to Washington was “considered to be in the interest of the organization and the effective functioning of its departments, particularly in view of the adoption of an enlarged program covering the future scope and activities of the organization.”
For the time being, it was stated, only the Department of Organization and Membership, the Finance Department and the New Palestine, official weekly organ of the Z.O.A., will be moved to the capital. The youth and education departments and the Palestine Bureau will remain in New York for the present.
Rabbi Breslau has headed the American Zionist Bureau in Washington for the past two years. He succeeds Morris Margulies, who will go to Washington in another capacity, as ZOA secretary.
