Meanwhile, Mormon apostles joined Jewish leaders at the Mount of Olives cemetery in Jerusalem to commemorate the 1841 prayer by a Mormon leader dedicating Jerusalem as a place for the Jewish people.
Their letter was sent hours after Gov. Greg Abbot announced that he was withdrawing his state from the program over concerns about the lack of effective security screening of refugees.
"Likening refugees to diseases or to junk food, like candy, is a particularly egregious example of how refugees could be dehumanized," Mark Hetfield wrote.
