The one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Sabato Morais is commemorated today at the Mikveh Israel Congregation in Philadelphia, by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America of New York which he had founded, and during the week in many pulpits in the land. Sabato Morais was born in Leghorn, Italy, on April 13, 1823, descended of a Portuguese family which fled to Italy to escape the terrors of the Inquisition.
