Vatican Designates Observer for the East

Vatican interests in the Holy Land, particularly the holy places, will be looked after by a special emissary, announcement having been made here today that Monsignor Filippi, former Papal nuncio to Mexico has been designated special observer in the middle east.

Monsignor Filippi is charged with conducting a through investigation of the countries to which he is assigned and to report to the Holy see, which will use his findings a a basis for action in those places.

M. Jordanski has been received by the foreign office as the new representative in Italy of the Soviet Government.
