A special session of the American Jewish Congress may be held in Philadelphia February 10, for the purpose of determining action on the immigration problem, it is learned by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency from reliable sources.
Plans have already been made for a combined executive committee meeting, regional conference of delegates from Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, and a mass meeting in Philadelphia on the above mentioned date, and it has been suggested that the scope of this meeting be enlarged to include all of the delegates to the American Jewish Congress. There is a strong possibility that this suggestion will be favorably acted upon.
In connection with the activity of the American Jewish Congress with regard to the immigration question, circular letters have gone out from the Congress offices to delegates in all parts of the country, asking them to take some action in protest of the proposed immigration bill, the letters containing a summary of the clauses of the bill and the objections to it.
Such action has already been taken in many cities throughout the country, meetings having been called in St. Louis, where the Progressive Order of the West are cooperating most actively; Pittsburgh, Boston, Providence and Newark. Meetings are also being planned for Chicago, Washington, D.C.m and Reading, Pa., as well as many other cities throughout the land.
