Lord Rothermere’s London Daily Mail today demanded of Premier MacDonald that he evacuate Palestine and Mesopotamia, “two millstones around the British neck.” The Daily Mail, which is anti-Zionist, has the largest circulation of any paper in London. In the light of the Mail’s demands it is interesting to recall the following statement made by Premier MacDonald in August, 1922:

“The approval by the Council of the League of Nations of the Mandate

over Palestine is an event of the greatest importance to the whole Jewish race. The whole world will now expect the Jews to face in a practical way the responsibilities thus placed on their shoulders. They must cooperate with the Government in removing all obstacles to a peaceful settlement to effect a concordat with the Arab population and to develop the resources of their own homeland in Palestine.”
