Canadian Judge Raises Interesting Point

When F.A. Silverman presented himself before Justice Ferguson to be enrolled as a solicitor, he was given the oath in the ordinary way, bareheaded and just kissing the Bible. The Judge questioned later whether on such an occasion a Jewish oath should not be administered, though the Registrar stated that no distinction had ever been made between Jew and Gentile in the administering of the oath. Justice Ferguson stated that matter had to be considered, expressing the opinion that the oath should be administered according to a man’s religion. If this is effected, Jews will have to be sworn in wearing their hats and holding the Bible open at the Ten Commandments.
