The Rabbi of Pawolatsch, in the district of Belo-Zerkov, is being prosecuted by the authorities on the demand of the Jewish Sections of the Communist Party, for having denounced publicly the Jewish Soviet schools (Government schools) in which Jewish children, being deprived of the necessary instruction of Jewish faith, are being led to ultimate baptism, he alleged. The Rabbi called on the Jewish population to boycott these schools.
When the Society of former inhabitants of Pawolatsch who are now resident in the United States sent the Rabbi a sum of 150 dollars to aid the Jewish population of the town, the Rabbi spent the money on repairing the local Beth Hamedrash, to make it fit to be used as a school-room for the Jewish children. 40 dollars of this sum, which were still in the Rabbi’s possession at the time the proceedings against him were started, have been confiscated by the authorities.
