The “Day” expresses its desire to see the Secretary of Labor, Mr. Davis, replaced by some one else in Mr. Coolidge’s next cabinet.

“During the campaign”, says the “Day”, “Mr. Davis kept silent on the immigration issue. Now that the elections are over he has come out again with his favorite plan for registering and spying on the immigrants and aliens in this country.

“We know that his plans have good prospects of being accepted because he has the backing of the entire Cabinet. Yet it is possible that the matter would be postponed and perhaps dropped in time, if it were not for Mr. Davis continuing his cry of alarm against the immigrants.

“It is for this reason that we hope Mr. Coolidge will appoint a new Secretary of Labor. Mr. Davis is too narrow-minded, too limited in his out-look, to be of any real value in the President’s Cabinet.”

URGES THAT THE SECRETARY OF LABOR BE REMOVED FROM CABINET

The rumors that Secretary of Labor Davis will not be included in the next cabinet of President Coolidge, have occasioned the following editorial comment in the “Tageblatt” of November 7:

“If Mr. Davis is dropped from the Cabinet it will be one of the best things Mr. Coolidge will have done at the outset of his career as elected president of the United States.

“The mind of Mr. Davis works in the same channels as did the minds of Russian chinovniks under the Czar. Else he could never have conceived the idea of creating a passport system whereby all immigrants should be registered on entering this country and spied on as if they were outlaws. This system of spying on free men and women who come to make America their home, Mr. Davis calles the ‘education of the immigrants.’

“Mr. Davis’ place is not in the cabinet of the United States.”

JEWS BACKING THE KLAN!

The “Day” of Nov. 6 commenting on the “discovery” of an Argentinian journalist which was published in the “Observatore Romana”, the official Vatican organ, to the effect that the Jews are responsible for the existence and activities of the Klan says:

“The story will give the Catholics of Europe and America the impression that the Jews through the medium of the Ku Klux Klan are persecuting the Catholic Church. It will not be at all surprising to see an echo of this in the Catholic press of France, Poland, Hungary and Bavaria.

“It would be no more than just and fair that the representative Catholics in America should explain to the Roman prelates and the Catholic organ at the Vatican that the whole story of the Argentine journalist is a stupid fabrication.”
