Ten thousand inhabitants of the Holy City participated in a huge celebration today on the occasion of the opening of King George Avenue.

Representatives of all religions, the consuls of foreign countries and local officials, headed by Sir Herbert Samuel, attended the ceremonies.

“The opening of King George Avenue is a symbol of Palestine’s becoming a progressive state. This process of progress will continue if peace prevails in the country. Jerusalem will soon have a population of 100,000,” Sir Herbert declared in his opening speech.

Nashashibi, the mayor of Jerusalem, stated that the avenue is two kilometers long and twenty meters wide.
