The Delphiner silk factory, which employed nearly 2,000 Jewish workers, was closed down.
Mr. Dizengoff, former mayor of Tel Aviv, was authorized by Max Delphiner, Austrian Jewish millionaire manufacturer, to sell the plant. The workers received two weeks’ advance pay. £ 35,000 was said to have been invested by Mr. Delphiner in the factory.
The sudden closing of the factory created consternation in the industrial circles of Tel Aviv. Mr. Delphiner left for Vienna hastily.
Mr. Dizengoff was authorized to sell the for £ 12,000, it was stated. Should the plant not be sold within four weeks, the machinery was to be transported to Vienna.
