Four hundred leading Jews of the Lawndale district at a farewell dinner to Nahum Sokolow, chairman of the Zionist Executive, pledged more than $50,000 to the $500,000 drive of the United Palestine Appeal of which Max Shulman is chairman here.
The dinner was at the Anshe Sholom Center. Meyer Abrams presided. Among the larger gifts were three pledged by I. Balaban, S. P. Platt, and Shulman, Shulman and Abrams.
Rabbi Saul Silber, Judge Harry M. Fisher, S. J. Rosenblatt, Samuel Ginsburg, Dr. George Rosenzweig and Judge Hugo Pam spoke.
The committee of Zionists which arranged the dinner included B. A. Antonow, Dr. B. DeKoven, Martin Fox. P. Altschul, I. B. Rosenstein, L. Turner and Harry Morris.
Mr. Sokolow left for New York after holding a number of conferences relative to the campaign.
Among the events arranged in his honor, in addition to the dinner at the Anshe Sholom Center, were a reception in the Albany park district, a lunchcon at the Edgewater Beach Hotel, at which $10,000 was raised and $25,000 pledged for the United Palestine Appeal, and a reception by the Hadassah.
