Esperanto Association Honors Its Founder

A memorial at the grave of Dr. Ludwig Zamenhoff, the author of the international language, Esperanto, erected by the International Esperanto Association, will be unveiled on April 18.

Delegations from Esperanto Associations in various countries are expected to arrive here to attend the unveiling.

A mass meeting for the purpose of furthering the Five-Day Week Movement will be held on May 9, under the auspices of the Committee for the Promotion of the Five-Day-Working Week, organized under the Jewish Sabbath Alliance of America.

Dr. Bernard Drachman will preside. Among the speakers will be Senator Royal S. Copeland, Capt. N. Taylor Phillips, Dr. Cyrus Adler of Philadelphia, Congressman Emanuel Celler and Nathan D. Perlman, Hon. Jos. Barondess, Rabbi Samuel J. Levinson, Assemblyman Samuel Mandelbaum.

The twentieth anniversary of Tremont Temple, Congregation Gates of Mercy, at Grand Concourse and Burnside Ave., Bronx, N. Y., was celebrated during this week. Tremont Temple is the oldest congregation in the Bronx. It was started in 1906, when fourteen women organized the Tremont Sisterhood for the purpose of establishing a religious school for Jewish children in the sparsely populated Tremont section of the Bronx.

The present house of worship was dedicated in 1921. The congregation numbers about two hundred members. The religious school has a registration of 265, and the Sisterhood numbers two hundred and fifty.

Endorsement of the United Jewish Campaign is urged upon the lodge of the Independent Order B’rith Abraham, in an appeal issued by Adolph Stern, Grand Master of the order.

The appeal urges individual members to render assistance to the campaign.

A non-Jew, C. C. Perry, is chairman of the United Jewish Campaign in Carlisle County. Kentucky. Mr. Perry is assistant cashier of the Bardwell Deposit Bank, in Bardwell, Ky., which is the county seat.

The town of Bardwell has a population of 1,500 with only a few Jewish residents.

A new chapel, part of the enlarged Temple Mishkan Tefila of Boston, was dedicated Sunday evening.

The new chapel is located within the present structure, but is a step toward the fulfillment of plans for an enlarged group of structures. Moses Michel is president of the Congregation.

In appreciation of services covering a period of twenty-five years the Trustees and Members of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun have subscribed to a fund to cover the expenses of a trip to Palestine for M. Z. Levinson, sexton of the synagogue, and his wife.
