The granting of aid to the Jewish farmers in Bessarabia was decided upon at the last meeting of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Colonization Association, it was learned here today.
The measure was decided upon in view of the rigorous winter which aggravated the situation, creating great distress among the Jewish farmers. The amount of $30,000 was allotted by the lea for the purpose of enabling the farmers to purchase additional land adjoining the present allotment, which proved insufficient. Larger credit aids for the purpose of developing agricultural activity and providing cattle and machinery will be extended.
MORGENTHAU CELEBRATES HIS SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY
Henry Morgenthau, former American Ambassador to Turkey, celebrated his seventieth birthday yesterday at his home, 417 Park Avenue, New York. A family party was arranged at his home Sunday evening by his four children and thirteen grandchildren.
Only a few intimate friends of Mr. Morgenthau were at the dinner given by his children and grandchildren. Following the dinner there was an entertainment including native Armenian folk songs by the Mehrabin Choir, singing in native costume. The Armenian choir was from the International Community Centre.
