William E. Dever, Mayor of Chicago, is honorary chairman of the committee of one hundred which is in charge of the Hakoah soccer team’s visit to Chicago. The personnel of the committee was made known by Edward M. Kahn, executive director.
Included are sixty of the city’s leading Jewish men and women, and forty non-Jews of prominence in civic and social life. Judges, lawyers, clerics, bankers, social workers, club heads and others make up the general committee of which Fred Bernstein and Judge Hugo M. Friend are associate chairmen, and James H. Becker is treasurer.
Mrs. Samuel Alschuler, incoming president of the Council of Jewish Women; Mrs. Edward Loewenthal, president of the Chicago Woman’s Aid and Mrs. Edith Rockefeller McCormick are on the committee, as well as Mrs. Joseph Mayer, a past president of the Chicago Woman’s Aid; Mrs. Ignace J. Reis, Mrs. Hannah G. Solomon, honorary national president of the Conference of Jewish Women, which comprises some ninety clubs.
A number of prominent sports writers, among whom are Warren W. Brown of the “Herald-Examiner” and Harvey T. Woodruff and Walter Eckersall of the “Chicago Tribune” are listed. Meyer Morton, one of the official soccer and football referees of the Western Collegiate conference is a member.
Dr. Ignatz H. Koerner, president of the Hakoah, will arrive in Chicago today and the team will come May 4.
The first game in Chicago will be played at the White Sox baseball park, on the south side, with an anticipated “full house” or 40,000 persons.
