The United Jewish Appeal, this city’s joint drive in behalf of the United Jewish Campaign, the United Palestine Appeal and the local Conference of Jewish Charities will continue in force until such time as the full quota of $600,000 is raised, it was decided. The drive was formally begun May 24 and was to have ended June 2 but at a luncheon of campaign workers held on the latter day, it was announced that only $372,000 of the money sought had been raised. Morris Scheck, chairman of the joint appeal, then announced that the drive would be prolonged.
It was reported at the luncheon that of the 10,000 prospects in this city, only 1,400 had been approached up to that day for subscriptions. Numerous pledges have been received from non-Jews, among them subscriptions from Mayor Thomas L. Raymond and Director of Revenue and Finance John Howe.
